Tripla

The Tripla complex being built in Pasila, Helsinki, is set to change the area’s landscape and range of services in a major way. The building project, launched in 2015 by YIT, is one of the largest in Finland. The project’s massive information assets are managed with the SokoPro project bank.

Use

The complex being built around the Pasila railway station consist of a mall, a hotel, offices, housing and an underground parking facility. The project also includes the redesign of the Pasila railway station. Tripla is one of the largest construction projects ever conducted in Finland.

“Tripla is a unique project for YIT. It combines all the different areas of construction, meaning infrastructure, business premises and housing construction, and the area around the railway station is a notable and interesting construction site in terms of its impact on the cityscape.” says Procurement Manager Ulla Judström from YIT.

Tripla is being built with the help of Grano’s SokoPro project bank, which YIT has a long history of using in connection with various framework and seasonal contracts

Due to this long-running cooperation, the SokoPro system is also familiar to many of the people working on the project. The construction of Tripla commenced in 2015, and the project bank was put into use right from the beginning.

“We started considering the potential, features and utilisation of a project bank in our own processes at an early stage, before an official decision was made. We also held development meetings with Grano, in which we discussed various development ideas and ways of implementing them in regard to the procurement. Some of these ideas ended up being implemented in SokoPro through software updates.” Judström states.

Faster and more secure information exchange

SokoPro’s electronic tendering tool has provided a great deal of added value to YIT in the construction of Tripla. According to Judström, the tool has led to more transparent operations as well as faster and more secure information exchange. Merely a few years ago, plans were still being sent by post, e-mail or even fax. However, major projects such as Tripla involve such massive amounts of data that sending everything via e-mail would be all but impossible, or at least extremely slow and frustrating.

“Tripla utilises building information modelling (BIM), allowing us to share data directly from the model. The models themselves are so massive that sharing them would be practically impossible without a cloud-based service, such as a project bank.”
